Best B Corp Brands to Live Sustainably
While we're still in celebration mode here at WUKA (did you hear? We’re officially a B Corp brand!) we thought we’d share the love a little. Here are our top ten fellow B Corp brands to help you live sustainably. Please do let us know your favourite B Corp brands too!
1. Ocean Bottle
Every bottle you buy from Ocean Bottle goes towards funding the the collection of 1000 ocean bound plastic bottles before they get that far. Globally, we produce around 381 million tonnes in plastic waste every single year, with half of that being single-use- and only 9% of it ever having been recycled. 8 to 14 million tonnes of this plastic enters our oceans each year, which is truly terrifying.
UK beaches have 5000 pieces of plastic and 150 plastic bottles per mile. We could go on, but frankly we’ve heard enough. You can read more stats about plastic here, and you know how we feel about single-use, plastic-riddled disposables- but in the meantime, let’s talk about what Ocean Bottle are doing about it all.
Ocean Bottle are chaining the narrative. As of March 2023, they’ve stopped 8,721, 576 kg of plastic destined for the ocean. So when you buy a reusable bottle from these guys, you know that your order is going some way to reverse the devastating effects that plastic is wreaking on our planet. Their goal is to collect 7 billion bottles by 2025. Let’s help them get there.
2. Ethical Bedding
Ethical Bedding are on a mission we can really get on board with. Their belief is that ‘how you do anything, is how you do everything’, and we couldn’t agree more. We’re also on the same page when it comes to the importance of sleep- and these are the principles by which this fellow B Corp brand came to be.
Ethical Bedding’s products aim to deliver you a good night’s sleep- with gorgeous bedding that has to be slept on to be believed!- but without compromising the planet. So everything they make is sustainable, with an ethical and sustainable supply chain, and with meaningful charity donations too. Currently, they’re the only B Corp bedding brand on the planet, so they definitely need to be on your radar.
3. Hurr
If fast fashion just doesn’t float your boat (we’re with you), then you’ll love Hurr, the ‘home of circular fashion’. Hurr claim to be giving the world a ‘greenover’, hot on renting clothes rather than selling them. Such a great idea!
We wrote about the staggering amounts of clothes being sent to landfill in our post about recycling underwear, and we just love the idea of cutting those alarming stats right down with Hurr. So instead of buying clothes that you only wear once or twice, you rent them- reducing the price tag, both to you and to the planet.
Hurr are committed to helping women indulge their love of the latest styles, without destroying the planet as they do it, and we think it’s absolutely brilliant.
4. Little Soap Company
Achieving B Corp status back in 2020, Little Soap Company are an amazing small British brand based in the picturesque North Cotswold Hills- and they’re creators of the fantastic Eco Warrior bar soap. We love this range so much. Every bar of soap they produce smells amazing, and is made using only natural ingredients and at an affordable price in line with founder Emma’s life-long mission: to make bar soap accessible to all.
Your skin is the largest organ on your body, and yet so few of us treat it with the TLC it needs. Little Soap Company products are made with your health and wellbeing in mind, whilst keeping our planet at the forefront of all they do too. We highly recommend you ditch the plastic bottles of showr gel and check them out!
5. Upcircle
Looking for natural, sustainable skincare? Upcircle have got your back. Upcircle have the most gorgeous range of skincare products, with a mission statement that reads:
"Our ultimate mission is to leave the world better than we found it by transforming ingredients that would otherwise be discarded into natural, organic beauty products – better for you, better for the world.”
Using up-cycled ingredients to show that the beauty industry can -and SHOULD- be less wasteful, Upcircle are sustainable- and determined to make some changes in the way that we consume skincare products. Yes, you read that right. Born from the realisation that used coffee grounds could actually be put to use in other ways, every product in the Upcirlce range was actually once something else.
And when you’ve finished, you can re-fill it too. Such a great idea- you definitely need to check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
6. Form Nutrition
One for our gym bunnies- Form Nutrition. With the plethora of ‘healthy’ protein bars, shakes and snacks filling our supermarket shelves, it’s really easy to get confused about whether or not the choices we’re making are really the right ones. When it comes to nutrition, it’s a minefield.
Form Nutrition are plant based, and serious about helping you to achieve your goals- but with purpose. They believe that there really is a more responsible way forward, and we completely agree. And by the way, their protein powder is the best. The Superblend has 20g of protein, along with maca, flaxseed, and a blend of greens and fruits to give you a supercharged kick when you need it. Great for those days during your period where you know you need some nutrition, but you also want something that tastes amazing.
7. Divine Chocolate
Speaking of tasting amazing… let’s talk chocolate. Because every now and then, we all need some chocolate (hello period cravings!) but we want our indulgences to be worth it, right? Enter Divine Chocolate. Trust us, this stuff really is divine- we particularly love the 68% dark with fruit and nut (dark chocolate is great for keeping your iron levels up, especially during your period. Just saying…).
But what makes Divine Chocolate extra amazing is their commitment to doing things differently. Divine Chocolate is a global social enterprise driven by a mission to help end exploitation in the cocoa industry, and to encourage farmers to prosper instead. Divine Chocolate are also certified Fairtrade and organic, plus they have this to say about the extra stuff they do too:
“In addition to the benefits of co-ownership and Fairtrade, Divine has supported many projects aimed at the empowerment of women, adult education and promoting good governance.”
So next time you have a sweet tooth, you know which chocolate bar you need to reach for.
8. Hilltop Honey
Starting off with just one hive as a present from his parents, Hilltop Honey’s founder Scott has created something really quite special in the beautiful hills of Wales. They’re the first honey brand in the UK to achieve B Corp status and they’re dedicated to being a business for good, not for profit.
Hilltop Honey are carbon neutral, supporting several carbon offsetting projects across the world and locally, and they’re proud to be zero waste-to-landfill too. We love their energy and their passion for the bees too, with a fantastic bee welfare policy in place to ensure a squeaky clean supply chain which is fully traceable back to hive. Oh, and who can resist a spoonful of honey on toast when comfort food is calling? Not us!
9. KeepCup
Ok, so KeepCup is amazing, and they’re on a mission to rid the world (and our oceans) of single-use plastic coffee cups. Using the handy tool on their website, it’s calculated that if the average person was to buy five takeaway coffees per week, we’d contribute towards 0.18kg of carbon dioxide, 0.02kg of plastic, 4.74mj of energy and 0.11kg of timber. Just with that one cup of coffee.
KeepCup’s mission? To help us all to buy once, and buy well. So their cups are not just eco-friendly, helping to cut down on consumption of plastic-riddled cups, but they’ve won design awards too. They’re a sleek and sophisticated signifier of change.
10. Spruce
Spruce make refillable cleaning products that are designed to benefit your home, your health and our planet. Another amazing B Corp brand determined to cut single-use plastic, Spruce are also on a mission to rid of us harmful toxins and chemicals too.
Did you know that the average bottle of cleaning products actually contains chemicals which could disrupt your delicate balance of hormones? EDCs (endocrine disrupting chemicals) and micro plastics are everywhere, which is why Spruce have eliminated them completely from their range. And not only can you now have a green clean, but you can have a more effective clean too, with natural ingredients that are chosen to perform and protect.
We love the refillable part too- no more single-use plastic spray bottles in your cleaning cupboard. Hooray!
We’d love it if you took a moment to check out the brands mentioned in this post. Here at WUKA we’re so proud to be a part of the amazing B Corp movement, and after reading all of this, we hope you’ll agree we’re in very good company!
